Fueling Your Own Little Empire!

Hi Everyone - Welcome to today's blog. Hope you enjoy the pictures and info.

I spent a hunk of time yesterday updating my iphone from a 3G to a 4S so that I can easily create videos for you. I figured out how to post a video in the blog. Stay tuned later this week for a few really effective and simple exercises via video.

Are you familiar with quinoa?
It's an ancient grain of the Incas - Here is raw quinoa

It has 6 g of Protein per 1/4 c (dry) - Cooked
Eatin' quinoa - this is my husband, Henry
"Quinoa is a delicately flavored, highly nutritious grain. It's fiber and protein content, along with nine essential amino acids, provided the nutrition the Incas needed to survive the harsh Andean climate. Enjoy our 365 Everyday Value Organic Quinoa on its own or as a substitute for rice and fuel your own little empire."

Ha! I love this description that I found on the back of my quinoa package. They don't mention how wonderfully aromaic it is. It smells like nuts and hay and really great stuff.

Our ideal breakfast is a grain, a protein (today we had tofu fried in tamari soy sauce) and a bunch of veggies with a fresh veggie juice (the orange looking juice is made from grapefruit, carrot and ginger). When we eat this densely nutritious meal as our first meal - we feel satisfied for a long time. Quinoa takes only 15 minutes to cook. While it was cooking I stir fried the tofu and stir fried the veggies (baby bok choy, red pepper, broccoli, and ginger). I put one tablespoon of olive oil in the stir fry pans and 2 tablespoons of water. Our meal was ready just when the quinoa was done.

Do you see that majestic, giant mammal? It swam right by our condo this morning - just as I had finished my meditation.

Manatees bodies taper into a flat, paddle-shaped tail that helps them to swim. The females are larger than the males and become sexually mature when they are 5 years old, as opposed to the males that become active when they are 9 (that means the females are always mating with a younger man - weeehooo for those lucky sisters [JK] well, sort of JK). They are herbivores so they fuel their empire with plants. They move very slowly and spend a large part of their day sleeping underwater, coming up for air every 20 minutes. This one was rolling around the intercostal when I first spotted it. There are about 3000 in Florida - I'm always fascinated to see them right from our condo balcony. And honored.

                              ****************************************************

Today before my meditation I was thinking about how we as humans naturally spend so much of our time thinking about how conflicted we are about this and this and that. And how stuck and frustrated we can get. And how confused we can get over this and that. And what we should do and how we should feel and so on. So much of our mind chatter goes on that way.

It becomes a negative mantra.

But...... it doesn't have to be that way. We are full of wisdom. We are full of insights and vast goodness.

The thing to do is to get this wisdom, these insights into your "stream of being" (as Pema Chodrin calls it).

One way to do this is to simple sit comfortably with your eyes closed. Inhale bad, negative, hot; exhale bright, cool, energetic. Inhale bad, cramped; exhale bright light, even gold and blue and any color that you love.

If you have a bit of wisdom that is positive and good for you - exhale and think that wisdom. Just think it. Your bit of wisdom can probably be condensed to one or a few words - "accept" or "let go" or "not all things are perfect" or "happy and sorrow are life" or "just love is the answer".

Sit and breath for awhile in this way.

And throughout the day, a couple of times a day stream it into your being for just a moment with a nice deep breath - like the internet streaming a movie into your home - it's very much the same.

This is part of my meditation every single day. Not complicated, not lengthy - even 5 minutes is wonderful.

It will help to fuel your own little empire!!!

Love, love - it's all you need fellow wild women (well maybe a little quinoa and time and those things are nice too, oh - and hugs and endorphins and good words)
